„Who insures a burning house? Climate Risk Insurance and the InsuResilience Global Partnership“

Under the influence of climate change, extreme weather events and climate hazards become more prevalent in size and frequency. In 2020 climate-related disasters caused losses of US$ 210 bn worldwide and for many poor and vulnerable people, it is difficult to overcome these crises. The InsuResilience Global Partnership convenes more than 90 relevant stakeholders from the field of climate and disaster risk finance and insurance to join forces for this challenge. Led by G20 and V20, partners from governments, academia, development banks, insurance industry and civil society work together to promote all kinds of solutions from microinsurance for farmers up to disaster risk finance strategies for governments.

Together with our Alum Kay Tuschen we will talk about how climate risk insurance can work and about management of a global multi-stakeholder partnership.

Kay Tuschen (28) studied Economics and Economic History (B.A.) from 2012 to 2016 as well as Development Economics (M.Sc.) from 2016 to 2019 in Göttingen. He is a Junior Advisor for the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) that hosts the InsuResilience Secretariat in Bonn. During his studies, he was an active member of the student representation and held a seat in both the council of his faculty and the university senate for three years.
