## What would we like to talk about today?
:building_construction: [Structures in teacher education](#/0/5)
:bulb: [Pioneering work in SKILL.de](#/1)
:crystal_ball: [Implementing the UNESCO Open Science Recommendation](#/1/4)
Note:
By clicking on the respective topic, you can go directly to the first slide of the corresponding level.

## :School: What are the "rigid" structures we have to work in?
* Ministry funded project [SKILL.de](https://skill.uni-passau.de) at the [University of Passau](https://www.uni-passau.de/studium/)
* part of the funding line [Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung](https://www.qualitaetsoffensive-lehrerbildung.de/lehrerbildung/de/home/home_node.html) (Quality initiative for teacher education) by the [Federal Ministry of Education and Research](https://www.bmbf.de/bmbf/en/home/home_node.html;jsessionid=6AA493C1C4DD83ECB64A8BECF4311E42.live722)
* federal state of Bavaria (federal education system)
* with currently 2.555 (_approx. 22%_) students teachers in [teacher education program](https://www.uni-passau.de/studienangebot/studiengaenge/jura-und-lehramt/#c84298)
<!-- .slide: style="font-size: 28px;" -->
----
## :building_construction: What kind of "open" structures are available to us?
* the Center for Teacher Education [(ZLF)](https://zfl.uni-passau.de)
* Project OER-[Policy]([#/2/2](https://nas.dilab.uni-passau.de/d/f/550739858272858483))
* [Virtual University Bavaria](https://vhb.org) (VHB)
* Didactical [Innovation Labs](https://www.dilab.uni-passau.de/labore-im-ueberblick/)
* Digital Literacy & Information and Media Literacy
* Pass on or model basic education, culture and attitude to prospective teachers.
Note:
The project aims to address certain key issues in teacher education: first, institutional segmentation (i.e., in Germany teacher education is usually located in different parts of a college or university), and second, the need to promote and build digitally supported teaching and learning, as well as related practices and infrastructure.

## Pioneering work in [SKILL.de](https://skill.uni-passau.de) :rocket:
#### :handshake: Cooperation & Participation :link:
Development of structures for interdisciplinary and digital (collaboration) work
* Establishing cooperation structures / embedding in curricula
* New formats of teaching and learning in interplay of higher education and schools
* OER materials on the conceptual level (seminars) as well as didactical level (teaching moduls for schools)

Note:
Clarification and empowerment through Media and Information Literacy
>"[T]he need to decide whether in calling someone media literate, one means that they have achieved the basic skills equivalent to **knowing** one’s ABC [...] or, rather, that they have gained the subtle and complex skills necessary to **participate** as an educated and cultured person in society.”

### Values & Principles

<!-- .slide: style="font-size: 28px;" -->
<!-- .slide: data-background="#f0f8ff" -->
----
### The UNESCO Recommendation in the light of university-based teacher education
:one::exclamation: Promoting a common understanding of open science, associated benefits and challenges, as well as diverse paths to open science (recommendation)
:two::exclamation: Investing in open science infrastructures and services ([Department Didactical Innovation](#/2/2))
:three::exclamation: Investing training, education, digital literacy and capacity building for open science
Note:
Continued, additionally relevant: Fostering a culture of open science and aligning incentives for open science; Promoting innovative approaches for open science at different stages of the scientific process; Promoting international and multi-stakeholder cooperation
<!-- .slide: style="font-size: 28px;" -->
<!-- .slide: data-background="#f0f8ff" -->
----
## Implementing an Open Science Culture
- that shifts the focus to working in (interdisciplinary) teams
- increases the availability of scientific outputs to non-scientists
- establish a broadly acknowledged (infra)structure of incentives and rewards for academics

### [Open Work Hub](https://nas.dilab.uni-passau.de/d/f/581368190037196791)
Evolving and "opening up" known and traditional formats (e.g. PD and peer-instruction seminars):
>The Open Work Hub sees itself as a driving force for teaching innovation. It offers space and opportunity for open exchange, combined with the goal of initiating working or project groups on specific topics.
<!-- .slide: style="font-size: 31px;" -->
<!-- .slide: data-background="#e7feff" -->
Note:
The OWH was initiated in the first year of the projects in order to give new impulses especially in the cooperation (in the field of further education) within teacher training. On the one hand, the focus should be on current and relevant topics (such as e.g. [Online-Teaching](https://kurzelinks.de/xvjj) und [Media Didactics/Instructional Design](https://kurzelinks.de/tyy2), and Domain of One's Own), but to also make it possible for "external" interested parties to present their topics (e.g. [Sustainable Development Goals (in Education)](https://wp-dilab.uni-passau.de/open-work-hub-bildung-fuer-nachhaltige-entwicklung/)).

### [Virtual University Bavaria](https://vhb.org) (VHB)
[OER](https://en.unesco.org/themes/ict-education/oer) Materials created within the project can be published here
:handshake:
New [Repository](https://oer.vhb.org) for higher education institutions in Bavaria
<!-- .slide: data-background="#e7feff" -->
Note:
Throughout the project runtime, teaching materials for the university (e.g. materials on information and media literacy from the perspective of the University of Passau) as well as teaching modules are to be created and published. With collaboration and cooperation as the cornerstones of openness, it was appropriate to forego _building it from scratch_ and to look for partner institutions that might be on a similar mission.

### :bulb: Our aspiration for innovation and sustainability
* Innovation-driven work based on scientific methods
* Media didactics and media pedagogical work (Digital Literacies)
* Cooperation and Collaboration (incl. non-scientific stakeholders)
* Experimental openness in practice (Documentation as OER)

Note:
Bringing together the subject sciences, subject didactics and educational sciences with a basis in empirical work with digital forms of teaching and learning. Make the resulting products available to other colleges, universities and schools and iterate. Taking a new approach at the end of the project: publishing a multimodal or multimedia final publication in an open repository (Pressbooks). Continue the "opening" from the project and build a university open science initiative.
_Data transfer_ includes the transfer of processed scientific data (citizen science), observations and results as well as various forms and channels of communication to make scientifc outputs more useful and impactful for society in innovative ways.

### Lets iterate :arrows_counterclockwise:
:ok_hand: Open innovation and open science only works if you open up your thinking and questioning processes.
